Our aim is to make ourselves superfluous: At the end of a project, we leave an organisation strengthened and able to cope without our ongoing support. We strive to create a ripple effect, from the organisations we support into the broader sector in which they work.
Governance & Integrity was founded in the Netherlands in the early 1990’s by three philosophers and an organisational development expert: Frans Geraedts, Ruud Meij, Leonard de Jong and Moniek Bouland.
Governance & Integrity is driven by the conviction that every human being has a right to a decent government. This is our mission, we regard this as a fundamental human right, because the protection of all other human rights depends on it. The government’s core role of upholding societal integrity requires formal and structured education of public servants and elected members in moral deliberation. Governance & Integrity’s initial assignments to build integrity into the Dutch government system, and to introduce and train moral deliberation as a way of making morally sound decisions, were the spearhead for the breadth of our activities today.
Even though our work started with local and central government, we have extended our services to a wide variety of sectors, including civil society organisations (NGO’s, trade unions and social movements), educational institutions, healthcare providers, entrepreneurs, police, military, and financial institutions.
We work in countries with strong democracies and in countries where the democratic rule of law is still weak. Since its beginnings in the Netherlands, Governance & Integrity works to strengthen the integrity of organisations.
After several years of exploratory conversations, Governance & Integrity opened their doors in Aotearoa in 2026.
Governance & Integrity serves justice. This is the most important reason for our existence and our main driving force. All of our services and projects are designed with the purpose of building socially safe and just organisations, with ethical leadership, and an integrity system which protects personnel, clients and other stakeholders against power misuse, interpersonal violations, corruption, and professional negligence.
We work in uncharted waters. To come to new solutions we combine the experiences of the organisation we work with, with our own experiences, and with international best integrity practices.
