Our Services
Building and maintaining organisational integrity requires more than policies alone—it requires the right skills, systems, and support. Governance & Integrity offers a comprehensive range of services and training programmes designed to strengthen both the moral learning and compliance aspects of an organisation’s integrity system.
On the moral learning side of the Integrity System we offer services and training courses such as:
Moral decision-making training
During moral decision-making training participants (integrity staff, managers, employees) gain knowledge and skills to assess the moral correctness of their own, as well as someone else’s decision in a precise and methodical fashion. The training course sharpens individual’s awareness of integrity challenges in their specific job.
Moral decision-making facilitator training
We train your staff member(s) to facilitate regular moral deliberation. They will learn to facilitate team sessions to go through challenging cases that come up in their work. They also learn to gather and process cases into moresprudence for the organisation.
Moral reconstructions
During a moral reconstruction we run, together with you, a moral deliberation on something that has happened in the past, but where the uncertainty around, or the consequences of, that decision are still causing problems for the people involved today. A moral reconstruction establishes whether a moral mistake was made. If this is the case, it identifies everyone who has been affected by that decision. This then opens the possibility for an official apology, reconciliation, and compensation to make it right.
Moral deliberation chambers
Multi-stakeholder groups come together to run a moral deliberation on issues that affect all the organisations in the industry. As a result, these organisations feel confident to approach these issues within their organisation.
Training the organisation’s confidential contact person on integrity issues
We strongly recommend that an organisation has a support person or a confidential contact person. This could either be a staff member or an outsider to the organisation who receives training and has a certain number of allocated hours during their week to be available to anyone who has worries or doubts about things they have experienced or witnessed in the workplace. This is a ‘first port of call’ to help any staff member decide what steps they can and want to take to analyse, improve and/or solve a difficult situation. This is explicitly not the place to report an integrity violation. We offer integrity training for this confidential contact person.
Integrity Coordinator/Officer training course
We offer an extended training course for Integrity Coordinators who have the responsibility to improve the integrity system in their organisation, organise moral deliberations, distil organisation-specific moresprudence, to receive reports about suspected integrity violations, do a preliminary investigation, and advise management on the steps or processes that need to be taken next. They also advise on the investigation process and on internal and external communications.
Interim role as integrity coordinator
Some clients who are overhauling or improving their integrity system have asked Governance & Integrity to provide one of our integrity professionals as an interim integrity coordinator. We can temporarily fill this position and help train the person who will take over next.
On the compliance side of the Integrity System we offer the following types of services
System analysis
A system analysis provides a detailed picture of an organisation’s existing integrity infrastructure. Through interviews with both staff and management and by reviewing the organisation’s integrity documentation, this analysis aims to assess the successes of the current system and identifies where there is room for improvement.
Code of conduct
Do the people at the organisation know the content of their code of conduct? Is the code of conduct a living document that reflects the actual situation on the ground? We help with updating the code of conduct to make it comprehensive and valuable to the organisation. We also help socialise it to ensure that everyone is aware of it and knows where to report problems if they occur.
Risk analysis
A risk analysis identifies vulnerabilities; areas or procedures where an organisation could be at risk of potential small or large integrity violations. Advice is given on how these risks could be mitigated. The aim of these risk analyses is prevention.
Vetting interviews and post-appointment risk profiling
We have designed sector-specific risk profile instruments to identify potential integrity risks of for instance a director, an elected member, or a governance or board member. We advise that person on how to mitigate the risks. Having these risk profile conversations enhances resilience of the individual as well as the organisation or institution.
Reporting system
Does an organisation have a solid reporting system in place? What does it look like? Do people know where they can go if they have been the victim of a violation, or if they have witnessed a violation take place? Do people feel protected if they were to report? Do people feel that reports are being taken seriously, respectfully and fairly dealt with? We can help organisations build or improve their reporting system.
Compliance simulation
We will design a case, present it to a group of managers, and then lead them through the simulation exercise. How to respond when an employee is accused of a violation? What guidelines are there? Are there internal procedures that can be followed? Are the employees protected against false accusations? How is the truth obtained? Who should and who should not be included in communication about this accusation? What makes a chosen punishment just? At the end of the simulation the organisation knows what they have in place, and what they need to work on to be well prepared for when a violation is indeed reported.
Handling reported incidents
When a violation is reported, we can provide the necessary, tailor-made emergency assistance needed to tackle these complex issues immediately. This could be one intervention to enable the internal specialists and managers to resolve the case. Or if necessary, we can remain involved in bringing the case to a fair resolution (disciplinary measures or restorative justice). We can do a preliminary assessment (triage). We can advise whether an investigation is needed and what alternatives there are, ensuring the avoidance of both under- and over-reaction and guaranteeing due process for all involved. We don’t conduct the investigation, but we can help define the scope and refer to organisations that do handle these investigations. We can also assist with how to organise the internal communication as well as the publicity around the alleged breaches.
Assistance with integrity-related crises
If a scandal has broken in the media regarding a suspected integrity violation within an organisation, we can help this organisation analyse the crisis at hand and provide communication advice. As stated above, we do not conduct investigations ourselves. Governance & Integrity is there to assist the organisation before and/or after the investigation.
